Even in Crowded Market, Big Firms Still Have Edge in Wooing Millennial Talent

For millennials or young attorneys getting their start out of law school, there are more career options scattered throughout the legal ecosystem than ever before. Whether it’s law firms, alternate legal service providers, in-house legal departments, the Big Four or even a legal tech company, fresh-faced law talent has its pick of options when charting a career path. Frank Ready checked in with TRU's Jared Coseglia for his take in this article for Legaltech News.

“I’ve actually seen law students take salaries that are lower than salaries that they might get at any ALSP just because it’s a law firm and they think that might give them more professional mobility in the future,” said Jared Coseglia.

Still, opportunities for young attorneys are also beginning to appear inside corporate legal departments, which have traditionally favored more experienced attorneys. “They are looking for less expensive talent. Their head-hunt approvals are lower, their budgets are lower going into 2021. And they may not be able to afford the person that has all the skill sets they are looking for,” Coseglia said.
