TRU Q3 2021 Newsletter

Hello,

Q3 continued to set new records for available positions in data privacy, e-discovery, and cybersecurity. There was no late summer/early fall cyclical dip in hiring. Our clients are busy now, and they need talent now. Contract staffing hires soared in data privacy in Q3, and demand for ESI project managers, analysts, and forensic collections pros remained constant and voluminous.

However, the biggest trend in Q3 is trying to answer when—or if—employees should “come back” into the office. Law firms are at the forefront of this question, with roughly 80% issuing blanket return-to-office mandates. On the other hand, service providers are embracing their new normal and allowing many employees flexible or even entirely work-from-home hours. Add in vaccine mandates, mask policies, inflated but stabilizing salaries, kids returning to in-person school, and the plethora of other questions and challenges, and the job market is as complicated and competitive as ever.

As always, our quarterly newsletter serves as a compendium for all TRU original content—and there was plenty of important content delivered from us to you in Q3 2021. This quarter’s highlights include Part One of our annual “State of the Industry” article in Law Journal Newsletters, notable TRU C-level placements, and much, much more.

Please follow us on LinkedIn for real-time news, job alerts, and available contract talent, and enjoy the TRU Staffing Partners Q3 2021 Newsletter!

Sincerely,

The TRU Team

The Pandemic Job Market: From Drought to Pandemonium

Part 1 of TRU’s annual two-part article for Law Journal Newsletters was published in early July. TRU founder and CEO Jared Coseglia tackled the telling and interpretation of the legal technology job market’s astounding recovery from 2020’s Great Pause. After the second and third quarters of 2020 saw fewer legal technology job openings than any two quarters since 2010, it was both a relief and an unprecedented challenge to see Q2 2021 showing more talent demand than supply, rapid salary growth to attract and retain employees, broadly increased job opportunity derived from changes related to work-from-home (WFH) adoption, and a resulting never-before-seen level of turnover among middle-market positions that has the entire industry in a hiring frenzy. Read it here and watch for Part 2 to come in November!

TRU Secures CEO Placement with High Impact

Long-time TRU candidate John Reikes is now CEO at High Impact, a national leader in visual legal strategy, medical illustrations, 3D animations, and interactive presentations. “There are few leaders in the legal services space whose careers harmonize an ability to win the trust and affection of employees and stakeholders, exceed client expectations and elevate the customer experience, drive top-line revenue, and share an intense appreciation of the law. John Reikes is all of this and much more,” offers Coseglia. “I’ve had the pleasure of observing and participating in John’s career for almost a decade, and I am confident that John’s positive influence on High Impact, their clients, and the legal graphics industry at large will be felt immediately and well into the future.” Read more in our joint press release here!

“Jared the Job Whisperer” Picked Up for Bi-Weekly Segment on ABC Morning Show

Coseglia’s ongoing segment for ABC, “Jared the Job Whisperer,” providing job market intelligence and tips for successful job searches and interviews that apply across the board for America’s job seekers, was added to ABC12’s new morning show, “Good Morning Mid-Michigan.” He will appear every other Tuesday to aid viewers in honing their job search techniques while keeping tabs on the trends defining the job market. Watch the most recent segment here and visit our website to see additional appearances as they are filmed!

“Eye on ESI” and “TRU Trends”

The renewed partnership between TRU and the Association of Certified E-Discovery Professionals (ACEDS) produced plenty of content for the e-discovery community in Q3. The two primary initiatives, “Eye on ESI” and “TRU Trends,” kept pros in the space up to date on the most important aspects of the industry with a webinar (watch “Eye on ESI” here) and monthly blog posts (navigate to all “TRU Trends” posts here). TRU will also be appearing with ACEDS at Relativity Fest in October!

TRU Speaking Engagements

“State of the Privacy Market”

Coseglia and International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Vice President and Chief Knowledge Officer Omer Tene reunited for “State of the Privacy Market,” a LinkedIn Live event in September. This edition’s panel also included Susan Hintze, Partner and Founder of Hintze Law, a boutique law firm focused exclusively on privacy and security. The discussion focused on the state of the privacy market in Q3 2021. How has the digital transformation affected searching, networking, interviewing, and performing for privacy jobs? What are the trends in contract and full-time positions in privacy programs? Get those answers and much, much more in the recording here!

“ILTA Roundtable: How to Overcome Challenges in Recruiting and Hiring e-Discovery Professionals in Government”

Some challenges faced by government hiring managers are recruiting, lower compensation, examinations, long and sometimes mystifying application processes. This roundtable discussion explored these challenges and provided some examples and ideas to overcome them and help find future rock stars. Jared Coseglia lent his unique knowledge to this panel discussion. ILTA members can watch the recording here!

TRU on WCPT 820 AM Chicago

Coseglia appeared on WCPT 820 AM Chicago to address trends related to women in the post-pandemic workforce, their importance to employers, and how to get the women who are still disproportionately unemployed re-engaged with the workforce. He also discussed serious privacy concerns coming to the forefront of public discussion: how AI and algorithms can discriminate against job-seeking women and people of color; the racial bias inherent in today's AI, facial recognition software, and associated data collection; and the nature of privacy as either a consumer right or a human right. Watch highlights of the segment here!
